Donny and Marie Osmond In Toronto
July 4, 2011
Donny and Marie Osmond are performing together in Toronto for the first time with Donny & Marie Live, opening July 5 at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.
The show, which mixes their old pop and country hits with newer Broadway songs, began as a six-week engagement in Las Vegas in 2008. It has been extended twice and also made a detour through New York. They play for two weeks in Toronto.
In an interview with Jian Ghomeshi, host of CBC's Q cultural affairs show, the Osmond siblings demonstrated how they riff off each other to keep the show going.
"It's wonderful to be on stage with someone you know has the same work ethic," says Marie Osmond. The brother-sister duo, who hosted the Donny & Marie TV show in the 1970s, always knew they wanted to perform together again, she adds.
Now 54, Donny Osmond also told Q he's come to terms with his past as a teen idol and with having to face an audience that inevitably still wants to hear Puppy Love.
