Donny Osmond Takes Over Forum Shops With First-Ever Dance Forum
Vegas Deluxe
By Donny Osmond

July 6, 2011

Editor’s Note: Flamingo headliner Donny Osmond kicks off the first of VegasDeLuxe.com’s guest columnists while Robin Leach takes his well-deserved annual vacation to Europe (follow him on his travels at twitter.com/robin_leach). In Italy, he’s meeting up with two legends -- fellow Las Vegas resident Carlos Santana, plus Liza Minnelli, who will be headlining at the Las Vegas Hilton this fall. Every day, a new column, plus the usual Strip Scribbles, Tonight’s Tips and Tomorrow’s Teases -- and you never know what Robin will dig up in the wine country north of Rome, so please check back daily.

Before I begin, I must say that it is an honor to write a brief column for Robin Leach’s blog. Also, Marie and I feel fortunate to be working here in Las Vegas, The Entertainment Capital of the World.

The Donny & Marie Show was only supposed to be a limited engagement when we opened in 2008, but when you’re having this much fun, why quit?

Marie and I are in our fourth straight year of performing in Las Vegas (with more than 500 performances), and thoroughly enjoying this opportunity to headline at the forever-fabulous Flamingo here on The Strip. It’s a little nostalgic for me to be back in Vegas, because years ago my brothers and I performed here with some of yesteryear’s finest.
So, let me give you a little update on what’s happening at the Flamingo with The Donny & Marie Show.

Just a couple months ago, Marie and I revamped our show. The show still highlights more of our hits, plus I’m running all over the stage like I’m 20 years old again, but it also showcases songs from our most recent CD -- Donny & Marie -- featuring a little bit of country and a little bit of rock ‘n roll, and all Vegas.

The last time Marie and I released a duet album was about 30 year ago. Our recent CD was produced by Buddy Cannon, best known for producing Kenny Chesney’s hit albums, and debuted at #30 in the pop charts, #7 in country and #1 in folk. It kind of makes me wonder what we’ll do in our next 30 years.

Since that’s a ways off, let me tell you what I’m doing in the next 30 days.

Every year, I host the Donny.com Annual Get Together. It’s a weekend event the entire family can enjoy -- personalized concerts, fun activities, socials, etc. On Friday night, July 22, the Donny Dance Forum will overtake The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace!

Patterned after similar groups that orchestrate large, pre-choreographed dances and then randomly break into performances in public crowded areas, this will be the first-ever Donny Dance Forum with hopefully many more to come. I would love to have you participate in it. The best part of this event is ... it’s free! Visit Donny.com, and click on the Donny Dance Forum banner to sign up.

So, with the release of Marie’s and my recent CD, performing a nightly Las Vegas show and hosting an amazing weekend event, you would think that I should take a break. But that’s just not me. I love working on new projects.

At the end of August, I’m going on a whirlwind solo tour titled “Basically Yours.” It will be an intimate concert evening with audiences in venues ranging from 1,500 to 3,000 seats. I’ll perform the classics, along with hits and songs from my latest album. All the tour dates are available on Donny.com.

And, that’s what I’ve got going on this summer.

Thanks again for the opportunity to write a brief column, Robin. Hope you have a great holiday, and a happy summer to all your readers.

Donny
