Donny Osmond & Colm Wilkinson Announce New Shows In Toronto

On Monday, March 7th, 2011 Dancap Productions held a special media announcement where they added three new shows to their 2011 line-up and welcomed two very special guest stars to Toronto. Donny Osmond and Colm Wilkinson were both on hand for the event, and BWW was there to capture pictures and report on the announcement.

Dancap announced that the Vegas hit Donny & Marie will be coming to Toronto from July 5-17th (it had a very successful run on Broadway last December as well). Donny Osmond spent much of the 90s in Toronto playing the lead in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, but this marks the first time that the world's favourite brother and sister singing team will play together in Toronto.

BWW got the chance to chat briefly with Donny while he fielded questions from various members of the Toronto media, and he was kind enough to share this hilarious anecdote which highlights the wide age range Donny & Marie appeal to:

Donny: I've got to tell you this little story. After every show we have what's called a "meet & greet" and people come back stage to get autographs and take pictures, things like that. One night, we had this 16 year old girl and her Mom.  Her Mom walks up to me and tells me that her daughter had just turned 16, and all she wanted was to see Donny and Marie.  No lie, about five people later this lady walks up to me with her Mom in a wheelchair and says 'this is my Mom, she's turning 102 today and all she wanted was to see Donny and Marie.' So from 16 to 102, we've got it all covered.  But I'm not happy until I get the kindergarteners!

Donny was soon joined by one of Toronto's favourite adoptive sons, Colm Wilkinson, who will take to the stage once more when he brings his show Colm Wilkinson in Concert: Broadway and Beyond to the Four Seasons Centre. The show will coincide with the North American release of the album by the same name, which features some of Colm's most treasured Broadway hits such as Bring Him Home and Music of the Night as well as standards like Country Roads and Tennessee Waltz.

Colm Wilkinson has been spending a lot of time in Toronto recently, appearing for a special performance at a gala fundraiser in February for the Theatre Museum and also joining the newly formed Theatre 20. He will perform for two nights only, on August 12th and 13th.

Finally, Dancap will be bringing the Tony Award Winning Green Day musical American Idiot to the Toronto Centre for the Arts this holiday season, where it will play a two week run from December 28th, 2011 to January 15th, 2012. American Idiot is loosely based on Green Day's GRAMMY winning album of the same name, and features direction by Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), choregraphy by Steven Hoggett and orchestrations and arrangements by Tom Kitt (next to normal). Toronto will also be one of four locations (and the only Canadian city) to hold open auditions for the National Tour of American Idiot.

All three newly announced shows will be offered as a part of the Dancap FLEXI-Subscription, which allows the opportunity to buy a minimum of three shows at a discounted rate and in advance of general on-sale purchasing.
