Look Back: The Osmonds At Newcastle City Hall

THE Osmonds played their final Newcastle concert at the City Hall at the weekend. Long-time fan Kathleen Ainsley of Whitley Bay, and her fellow fans, recount a day to remember.
IT WAS a magical day as we went to their hotel to meet up with them as they left for the City Hall.
Not only do we meet The Boys but we also gather and enjoy the company of the fans who we have met up with throughout our Osmonds journey.
While at the hotel I gathered quotes and opinions from other fans. I do feel that it is up close and personal compared to the 70s and even the 50th tour when the family were here.
“I was too young to be at the concerts in the early 70s but I am living the dream now...so sad this is the last tour, “ said Catherine Gibson from Scotland)
Janis Beattie told me “We didn’t know each other but through The Osmonds we have made so many friends. We save up and travel to wherever they are.
“It’s like a hen party each weekend but without the alcohol. This is the 12th show I’ve been to on this tour so far!”
Carol Wilson of Cramlington added: “Lovely to meet them at The Gosforth Park (now The Marriott) Hotel and not be escorted out by security as I was in 1980. The boys are so gracious and make sure each fan has the chance for a photo and a word...they are so caring.
“At our Meet and Greet tonight the boys sang wonderful harmonies which were perfect. They were worth the 38-year wait. They have made my day and I am a very happy girl!”
As for the show, all I can say is Wow! They played to the audience with old and new with each brother holding the limelight equally. They have matured to perfection (in my opinion) and it’s so sad this is the end of the road we have come to know.
I wish them well in whatever they choose to do at the end of this magical tour and wish them a happy, healthy life. They deserve only the best as that’s what they have given us. The end of a wonderful journey... a joy.
